Civil Engineering Project Manager – Transportation Department

SSE is currently seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Project Manager with seven or more years of industry experience.  Project Managers are expected to achieve project goals and objectives within project constraints on scope, schedule, quality, and budget.  Candidates must be well versed in PennDOT and/or PA Turnpike Commission projects.  Projects may involve transportation engineering for the oil and gas industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Proposal development
  • Manage design projects. Managing the approved scope, budget and schedule are of utmost importance
  • Lead the design team consisting of staff engineers and other consultants as appropriate
  • Day to day project oversight and communication with the client
  • Develop, track, update, forecast, and modify the project schedule and budget throughout all phases of the project
  • Prepare monthly reports
  • Assist in plan reviews and QA/QC activities

Qualifications:

  • Candidates should have a BS or MS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum
  • 7 plus years experience with transportation engineering projects
  • 2 plus years experience in working in collaborative and unstructured teams, and managing and leading those teams
  • P.E. license required
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills

Drafting Technician

SSE is currently seeking a Drafting Technician to work in our Transportation Department of our State College or Selinsgrove Pennsylvania office.

Qualifications include an Associate’s Degree related to Computer Aided Drafting, Civil Engineering Technology or equivalent education. Experience with civil engineering projects is a plus. Effective oral and written communication skills, presentation skills, and the ability to complete projects independently and/or in small teams in a responsible and timely manner are required.  The ability to take design concepts from the engineering staff and create 2D/3D documents that specify the design intent is critical.

The ideal candidates would possess:

  • General knowledge of roadway construction and repair, site construction, and/or survey principles
  • General knowledge of PennDOT standards

SSE is currently seeking an experienced Senior Engineering Manager for the Morgantown office.  The Senior Engineering Manager will supervise the day-to-day operations of an office of a multi-office engineering firm, including oversight of the office physical resources, supporting regional business development initiatives, scheduling and coordination of personnel and workload delegation. This position will also promote a positive image of the firm within the community; uphold the firm’s high standards for engineering design and promote the firm’s policies, practices and philosophies.

Responsibilities:

  • Possess a Bachelor of Science degree in Civil Engineering, Surveying or related field.
  • 10+ years related professional experience in his/her specific discipline.

Construction Managers/Inspectors

SSE is currently seeking Construction Managers and Inspectors with PennDOT or Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) experience, with knowledge of roadway and bridge construction. Candidates should have the proper and relevant construction inspection experience on PennDOT or PTC projects. Relevant certifications, such as EIT, ACI, NECEPT, NICET or equivalent are a plus.  Resumes must include detailed work histories and certification numbers with expiration dates and references.

Student Interns

SSE is also accepting applications from civil engineering students for paid internships in all of our PA office locations (McMurray, Selinsgrove and State College).  The ideal candidates would be able to work in an office setting 12 to 20 hours per week during normal business hours.  The internship will provide the student experience with MicroStation, ArcGIS, PennDOT and AASHTO highway design procedures, construction management and inspection experience and real world experience in a fast paced team environment.
