Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, LLC is seeking a Project Engineer for the Land Development Department of our State College, PA office.

The ideal candidate would possess:

  • Professional Engineering (P.E) License with BS – Civil Engineering and have a minimum of 5 years of progressive design experience.
  • Must be proficient in AutoCAD Civil 3D.  Experience with MicroStation and InRoads CADD software is a plus.
  • Experience assisting a Project Manager with project tasks such as create estimates, feasibility analysis, site layout, grading, drainage, stormwater management design, erosion and sedimentation control, water and gas infrastructure routing and other tasks for oil & gas and land development projects.

Geotechnical Laboratory Technician – Transportation Department

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, LLC is currently seeking a Geotechnical Laboratory Technician to work in our Transportation Department at our State College office.

Position Requirements:

  • Ability, license, and clean driving record to operate a motor vehicle (box truck).
  • Strong attention to detail and skill in working with numbers including mathematical calculations involving percentages, fractions, and decimals.
  • Ability to operate field sampling equipment including drills, jackhammers, generators, and soil penetrometers, as well as, various laboratory test equipment including hydraulic test frames and mechanical soil separators.
  • Ability to perform a wide range of physical activities, including sustained walking, bending, twisting, standing and reaching, and perform medium to heavy work including lifting 70 or more pounds.
  • Ability to work indoors in a laboratory environment and outdoors in all weather conditions and over all types of terrain with some exposure to chemicals, dust,  noise, traffic and moving construction equipment.
  • Ability to safely follow established procedures and specifications to complete projects independently and/or in small teams in a responsible and timely manner is required.
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office.
  • Extended travel, including overnights could be required.

Additional consideration will be given to candidates who possess these qualifications:

  • Two to ten years of experience performing various laboratory tests on soil, concrete, asphalt, aggregates, cement, and other related construction materials.
  • Experience  with Full Depth Reclamation specifications including sampling, testing  and construction in accordance with the applicable sections of PennDOT Publication 447.
  • Active or desire to obtain NICET Geotechnical and other related certifications.
  • Completion of collegiate level course work related to Fundamentals of Geotechnical Engineering or related education beyond High School.
  • Experience with testing in accordance with Unconfined Compressive Strength Test - ASTM D1633 Method A.
  • Experience with implementing Temporary Work Zone Traffic Control devices and related safety procedures in accordance with PennDOT Publication 213 and completion of Flagger Training.

Structural Civil Engineering Designer – Building Structures Department

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, LLC is currently seeking a Designer for the Building Structures Department of our State College, PA office.

The ideal candidate would possess:

  • BS – Civil Engineering or Architectural Engineering (Structural emphasis) and have at least five years of experience in building structures
  • EIT with the ability to sit for the P.E. exam
  • Experience completing project tasks which could include building inspection and design
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD Revit, RAM Design Suite and design and analysis software

Pittsburgh, PA

Civil Engineering Project Manager – Transportation Department

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, LLC is currently seeking an experienced Civil Engineering Project Manager with ten or more years industry experience.  Project Managers are expected to achieve project goals and objectives within project constraints on scope, schedule, quality, and budget.  Candidates must be well versed in PennDOT and/or PA Turnpike Commission projects.

Responsibilities:

  • Proposal development
  • Manage design projects. Managing the approved scope, budget and schedule are of utmost importance
  • Lead the design team consisting of staff engineers and other consultants as appropriate
  • Day to day project oversight and communication with the client
  • Develop, track, update, forecast, and modify the project schedule and budget throughout all phases of the project
  • Prepare monthly reports
  • Assist in plan reviews and QA/QC activities

Qualifications:

  • Candidates should have a BS or MS in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited curriculum
  • 10 plus years experience with transportation engineering projects
  • 3 plus years experience in working in collaborative and unstructured teams, and managing and leading those teams
  • P.E. license required
  • Strong communication and technical writing skills
  • Good organizational skills
  • Experience having direct contact with clients
  • The ability to obtain state and federal background clearances to permit working on-site for certain clients

Preferences:

Construction Managers/Inspectors

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, LLC is currently seeking Construction Managers and Inspectors with PennDOT or Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) experience, with knowledge of roadway and bridge construction. Candidates should have the proper and relevant construction inspection experience on PennDOT or PTC projects. Relevant certifications, such as EIT, ACI, NECEPT, NICET or equivalent are a plus.  Resumes must include detailed work histories and certification numbers with expiration dates and references.

Student Interns

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering, LLC is also accepting applications from civil engineering students for paid internships in all of our PA office locations (McMurray, Selinsgrove and State College).  The ideal candidates would be able to work in an office setting 12 to 20 hours per week during normal business hours.  The internship will provide the student experience with MicroStation, ArcGIS, PennDOT and AASHTO highway design procedures, construction management and inspection experience and real world experience in a fast paced team environment.
