Beaver Avenue Streetscape Project, Borough of State College

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering provided engineering services for the Borough of State College to improve sidewalk and pedestrian safety on Beaver Avenue between Burrows Street and Allen Street.  This was a federally-funded Transportation Enhancement project which involved the design of pedestrian amenities and street lighting.  Thirty-five decorative streetlamps were installed to enhance the lighting and aesthetics of the sidewalk along Beaver Avenue.

Comprehensive Pedestrian and Bicycle Safety Study, Borough of State College

The project identified a prioritized list of areas of concern for pedestrian safety and provided cost-effective countermeasures for implementation at the top five safety locations.  The second part of the program developed a comprehensive action plan by providing specific engineering, planning, enforcement, and education recommendations to promote pedestrian and bicycle safety in the Borough.  Additional analysis was provided on the safety effects of the Leading Pedestrian Interval (LPI) and the results were presented at the Penn State Transportation Engineering and Safety Conference (2008) and at the 2009 Annual meeting of the Transportation Research Board (TRB) inWashington,D.C.  The report was selected for publication in the Transportation Research Record Journal.

Mifflinburg Borough, Union County, Safe Routes to School

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering provided construction inspection services for the construction activities related to the Safe Routes to School Project in the Borough of Mifflinburg.  Project activities included installation of drainage facilities, the replacement of selected concrete sidewalk, installation of ADA compliant sidewalk ramps, bituminous paving, and pedestrian signal improvements.  The project was located on Walnut Street, East Walnut Street, Mable Street and at Route 45 (Chestnut Street).

Centre Hall Sidewalk Rehabilitation, Centre Hall Borough

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering provided construction inspection services for the construction activities related to the sidewalk replacements along SR 0144 in the borough of Centre Hall, Centre County. Project activities included the replacement of selected concrete sidewalk along approximately 1 mile of the roadway.

Village of Boalsburg Streetscape Improvements, Harris Township

Stahl Sheaffer Engineering provided construction inspection services for the construction activities related to the traffic signal and sidewalk replacements along Church Street in the Village of Boalsburg, Centre County.  Project activities included the replacement of selected concrete sidewalk, installation of ADA compliant sidewalk ramps, and pedestrian signal improvements at the intersection of Church Street and Atherton Street.
